Art by the River in Saskatoon is all about giving local artists opportunities to showcase and sell their artwork while giving some chances to teach what they know about art to others.

Art in The Garden Party

Wiebe Works presents a Sunday afternoon Art in the Garden Tea Party on July 16th in our beautiful garden venue. We are partnering with Sova Millinery & Custom Apparel to host a fabulous fashion show, along with 5 local artisans offering up their creations for sale. Enjoy a delectable high tea service and a tasting from Black Fox Distillery, while listening to local string and jazz musicians all afternoon. A local florist is creating beautiful floral arrangements that will be auctioned off for charity. Fancy dress and hats are required. With the purchase of each ticket, you receive a $50 discount to any purchase from Sova Millinery and Custom Apparel to be used before or on the event date.

WieCan Make Prints Workshop

Join Valerie Wiebe and Marsha Cannon in a 2 day printmaking workshop at Wiebe Works. This event is suitable for both beginners and more experienced printmakers. Participants will create both colour, and black and white block prints using soft cut and Linocut techniques, while learning all the tips and tricks from a professional printmaker. Lunch is provided on both days and all equipment is included in the cost of a ticket.

Around the Table: A Dinner with Chef Dana Chadorf

Enjoy a 5 course dinner prepared by Chef Dana Chadorf of the Saskatoon Club. Chef Dana will prepare a fabulous dinner made with homegrown and locally sourced ingredients. Listen to live music from local performers and have a custom cocktail crafted specifically for each course by Stumbletown Distilling. Dana Chadorf has been a three-time past winner of the Top Chef Saskatchewan competition at Saskatoon’s Taste of Saskatchewan food festival and currently serves as the sous chef at the Saskatoon Club. As a graduate from the Culinary Education Center in New Jersey, she brings a wealth of experience to the city, which is evident in her food.

Dayton and Talia Buziak were born and raised in Saskatchewan, meaning they have a strong relationship with food. Through hunting, farming, fishing and preservation Dayton and Talia aim to amplify connections with the province through the utilization of local products. Saskatchewan is rich with history connected to food, and its their goal to showcase the beautiful quality of their home to every they cook for.

Chef Doug Hyndford is a member of the Peepeekisis Cree Nation of southern Saskatchewan in Treaty 4 territory and is currently the Indigenous Culinary Manager at Wanuskewin Heritage Park. Born and raised in Ottawa Ontario, Doug spent his early years in kitchens as a line cook in Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal. In 2004 he attended the Pacific Institute of the Culinary Arts on Granville Island, Vancouver BC where he completed a diploma in the Culinary Arts training in classic French Haute Cuisine. Doug also achieved his Red Seal certification and Certified Chef de Cuisine designation. After Graduation, Doug accepted a position as sous chef of the Five Point resto/bar on Main St Vancouver. From there Doug became executive chef of 2 of the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority’s Casinos and a couple of Saskatoon’s Hotels and Conference centres. From there Doug continued exploring Indigenous cuisine as executive chef and Director of Food and Beverage for Spirit Ridge Resort in Osoyoos B.C. Here Doug also participated in establishing a journeyman trade recognized Pro Cooking level 1 and 2 course for members of the Osoyoos Indian Band. Chef Doug has also worked as camp chef for a couple of Uranium Exploration camps as well as a remote tent camp on an uninhabited island in Lake Athabasca. Doug has competed in the Gold Metal Plates Culinary competition defining an Indigenous perspective on modern culinary trends. Chef Doug uses these experiences to further develop Indigenous culinary offerings for Wanuskewin Heritage Park in both a restaurant and event catering settings.
